Definte and Indefinite Articles



Definite and Indefinite articles

Do you want an orange? I want the orange in the middle.

Articles are a, an and the. They go in front of nouns and adjectives.

A and an are called indefinite articles. We don’t know which noun; the noun could be any of a group. A hat - My sister is wearing a hat.

The is called a definite article. We know which noun we are talking about.
The girl in the red hat is my sister. The woman in the yellow hat yellow is my cousin.

Single or Plural?
We use a and an with one - a dog a horse.
We can also use the with one. --The mother dog is mine.
We can use the with plurals. ---The dogs are mine.
